Nordic Naturals TASTE PURE LOVE Review and Giveaway

Did you know that it is estimated that 91% of American’s are deficient in omega-3 fatty acids? Omega-3 fatty acids are considered essential fatty acids. They are essential and necessary for our health but our bodies cannot produce them; we must get them from our food and supplementation. Also known as polyunsaturated fatty acids (PUFAs), omega-3s are made up of essential fatty acids EPA and DHA and can be found in fish (such as salmon, mackerel, sardines, lake trout, tuna, and halibut), algae, krill, nuts, and some plants. According to the University of Maryland Medical Center Omega-3s are highly concentrated in the brain and are important for cognitive and behavior function. This important nutrient also supports normal cardiovascular function, healthy joints, skin, and eyes, a healthy immune system, and even helps proper brain, eye and nervous system development in young children. Symptoms of omega-3 fatty acid deficiency include poor memory, dry skin, mood swings or depression, poor circulation, heart problems, and fatigue (

Toddler Potty Training Pants Sewing Tutorial and Free Pattern in Three Sizes

The Pattern

This pattern comes in three sizes. The small size fits approximately 18-24 months.

The medium is approximately a 2T/3T. It is about 1 inch wider through the side panels and about ½” taller than the 18 month size.

The large size is approximately 3T/4T. It is 1” wider through the side panels and 1” wider through the tummy panel (a total of 2” wider), 1” taller, and the soaker pad is wider and taller than the 18 month size. The width between the legs is the same on all sizes as well as the height of the waistbands and leg bands.

The sizes correspond to my children’s trainers and underwear that I have purchased from the store.

Honey Whole Wheat Sugar Cookies {recipe} with No Sugar

I have gestational diabetes (which I control only with diet) when I am pregnant and my four year old kept begging me for "roll out cookies" (he loves using the cookie cutters to cut out cookies). I transformed my unhealthy sugar laiden sugar cookie recipe into a whole food healthy version. And my family actually prefers this new honey whole wheat sugar cookies; they actually have flavor instead of just being "sweet" like regular sugar cookies! Also, I can have a couple without my blood sugar going too high. Both are wins in my book so I thought I would share the recipe with you.

{review} Buttons Cloth Diapers

I want to update everyone on some of my favorite cloth diapers that we still continue to use on a daily basis. There are probably 3-5 brands that I keep in our stash and use on a daily basis. One of them that I highly recommend is Buttons Cloth Diapers.

Herbal Tincture Label template {free printable}

I created a printable label template for my herbal tinctures. Simply download the word document from Google Docs, open it, and insert the common name, part used, and botanical name onto each label. Print and fill out the remaining info by hand before taping (I use boxing tape) to your tincture bottle. Enjoy :)

DIY Baby Bum Relief Spray

A few weeks ago, my 8 month old baby woke up with a horribly painful looking red bum. She was fussy and grumpy (I'm assuming its because her bum hurt). She has never had a diaper rash before. Even though I made sure her nappy was changed as soon as it was wet or soiled her red bum soon escalated and by noon it was so bad she looked like she had sores on her bum. I knew I needed to act fast and get this under control. I pulled out my essential oils and some other home remedies and concocted this baby bum relief spray. It worked so well that by bedtime most of the redness had gone away and she had just two small areas that looked chapped. I continued to use the bum relief spray and some herbal healing salve that I made a while ago and by the following night (day 2) everything was completely cleared up. I consider that a win in my book.

I've teamed up with some WAHMs to offer some great discounts during Thanksgiving and Christmas so you can get some awesome gifts at a discount! If everybody purchased just one Christmas gift from a WAHM, a local company, or a small business located in the US our local economies could be boosted and supported. Remember when you buy from small business you are supporting people who support you and actually care about their products and their customers.

{review} Buttons Cloth Diaper Natural Inserts

Six months ago I got the opportunity to review Buttons Diapers' cloth diaper covers and inserts. They are still one of my favorite covers (I personally have purchased 4 more covers) and I have been using the microfiber inserts more now that my baby is bigger. The only thing that I didn't like about the inserts is that they were made from microfiber, which is not my favorite fabric. I am super excited that Buttons Diapers now makes a NATURAL HEMP/COTTON insert topped with a super luxurious fleece.

{Herbal Learning Guide} Lesson 1G: How to Make: Herbal Infused Medicinal Oils

Herbal solar infused oils are really easy to make and are the base for other herbal products such as salves, massage and medicinal oils. It is important to choose a good quality oil – for medicinal oils, the oil of choice is usually olive oil; olive oil is relatively stable (meaning it doesn’t go rancid quickly), it is soothing and rich in omega fatty acids. However, it is not the usually the best choice for bath and body applications because it is heavy, feels oily, and always smells faintly of olives. For bath and body purposes try oils such as sweet almond oil, jojoba oil, avocado oil, or fractionated coconut oil.

Herbal Curry Spice Blend Recipe

I love it when my food also has medicinal purposes. Many traditional foods from other cultures (especially Asian countries such as India, Thailand, Vietnam, etc) are purposely spiced with medicinal herbs to aid in digestion and treat common ailments. The following recipe is one of my favorite curry mixtures. It contains herbs that are warming, drying, and anti-bacterial, which aid digestion and help stabilize blood sugar levels. Because the herbs are warming and drying they are great to help treat head and chest colds. Whenever, anyone in our family manifests symptoms of a cold, I always make up a big batch of chicken curry made with homemade bone broth and seasoned with this curry blend.

Nordic Naturals

A friend of mine texted me a few weeks ago and asked what DHA supplement I was taking and which brand I would recommend for her to give her baby. I told her what brand I use (Nordic Naturals) and she asked why.. the answer was way too long so I decided to write a blog post to tell her.

FuzziBunz OS Cloth Diaper Review

FuzziBunz originally started in 1998 by a young mother trying to design a modern cloth diaper for her son. In recent years, Rov Couvillion, a design engineer and grandfather of nine, was introduced to FuzziBunz as their manufacturing and design manager; he saw a need to redesign FuzziBunz OS diaper and start fresh. He teamed up with business partners to create CRG, LLC who purchased FuzziBunz and in August 2014 they relaunched the FuzziBunz One Size cloth diaper.

No Knead Sour Dough Bread

This sour dough bread is easy to make and delicious - I make a loaf just about every day and it always turns out good. Sour dough takes longer to rise than commercial yeast so it will take longer to make this bread than if you were to use a yeast based recipe.. However I love that I can make a loaf of bread using only sour dough starter, flour, water, and salt!
